Cillian Murphy fans might be disappointed to learn that one of his popular thrillers is no longer available on Netflix. However, there’s no need to worry—you can still catch it on another streaming platform.
Murphy, who recently received critical acclaim for his role in the historical drama Small Things Like These, continues to earn praise and even award buzz for his performance. This comes on the heels of his Oscar-winning portrayal of the titular character in Oppenheimer.
The thriller in question, Red Eye, co-starring Rachel McAdams, was previously streaming on Netflix, where fans described it as “outstanding.” Starting January 1, you can now find it on Paramount+, according to CBR.
Directed by Wes Craven, Red Eye follows Lisa, a hotel manager played by McAdams, who is on a flight home for her grandmother’s funeral. At the airport, she meets Jackson (Murphy), a seemingly charming stranger who ends up seated next to her on the plane. However, Jackson’s charm quickly fades as Lisa discovers his sinister intentions: he plans to assassinate the head of Homeland Security and needs Lisa’s help to pull it off by reassigning his room at her hotel. To ensure her cooperation, Jackson reveals he has kidnapped her father.
The film has been praised for its tension-filled story and stellar performances, earning an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 64% audience score. Critics and viewers alike have called it an exhilarating, fast-paced action thriller.
Nigel Floyd from Time Out wrote, “The psychological mind-games are played to the hilt, the pressurized cabin air increases the edge-of-the-seat tension, and the 85-minute flight time is gratifyingly short.”
Michael Clark from Epoch Times commented, “When taking place at the airport and on a plane, Red Eye is pitch perfect. The cloistered space and confined quarters ratchet up the suspense, often to uncomfortable (but welcomed) levels.”
Gabe Leibowitz of Film and Felt added, “Works extremely well as a fast-paced adrenaline rush, but not so well as an allegory on today’s government and security issues.”
If you haven’t seen it yet, now’s the perfect time to experience this intense thriller and enjoy the dynamic performances of Murphy and McAdams.
